| Indian man stays naked for 80 years after fever A man in India hasn't worn any clothes for 80 years because he thinks he'll get ill if he does. The Pragati newspaper says Kanduri Bhoi of Tentulia village in Orissa last wore clothes when he was 10. He says his mother forced him to stay naked after he got a fever during a bout of chicken pox. "Every time I covered my body with clothes the fever would shoot up. It was only when I discarded them things would return to normal. My nudity has protected me," the 90-year-old said. Local teacher, Sambaran Saha, said: "He's a harmless father figure. It's just we sometimes worry women might take offence to his nudity. "It's not a good idea to have him wear clothes now. I don't think he can handle that kind of pressure. At his age he deserves our respect and sympathy." Bhoi, a bachelor, lives with a married nephew. "We prefer to leave him alone. We don't want him dying of fever," his nephew's wife, Shanta, said. 30th December 2001 |
