| Authorities raid clinic using superglue to treat pimples A Bangkok skin care clinic has been raided for allegedly prescribing superglue as an acne remover. Public Health Ministry officials joined by police searched the Korrawee Clinic in Nonthaburi province, just north of Bangkok, after several patients complained. Police are believed to have found many tubes of superglue at the clinic which staff members told them was used for treating pimples. Superglue is used medically, though not commonly, as a substitute for sutures to help heal cuts and gashes. Lt. Somchoke Srakobkaew of Pakkred police station, said he did not know the precise nature of the complaints about the unorthodox treatment, which were made to the Health Ministry. Health officials seized all medicines found in the clinic to be sent for laboratory analysis and will consult medical experts about the superglue treatment. If the procedure is judged to have been harmful, police will arrest the clinic owner, who was not present at the time of the raid, Somchoke said. Police arrested a staff member of the clinic for allegedly practicing medicine without a license. If found guilty, she could face up to three years in jail. 14th January 2002 |
