| Woman in internet wife auction may become Mrs Webb An internet businesswoman who's auctioning herself as a wife could end up tying the knot with Mr Webb. Ben Webb is the second person to bid for Kay Hammond in her new auction which ends on January 28. The Birmingham woman's previous attempts to auction herself online had to be withdrawn after a series of bogus bids reached £1 billion. The new auction carries a warning that false bidders may be prosecuted. QXL believe the strict terms and conditions may be putting off bogus bidders. Ms Hammond is 24 and hopes to marry by the time she's 25 on April 2. Bidders must be available for a March wedding. She told Ananova: "Ben Webb looks really promising. It seems like fate. I feel so optimistic about this one. I thought it was a set up but the guy has sent all his contact details and he's a genuine bidder and I'm absolutely thrilled. "It would be a very modern fairytale - I run an internet company and his name is Webb." Mr Webb has bid £251,000, an increase of £1,000 on the initial offer from a user calling himself andrew1901. Ms Hammond has set up a two-tier system in which bidders must send her a confirmation e-mail. Bidders must agree to be filmed and interviewed by media companies, agree to undertake medical and psychological checks, and prove they have the funds available to support their bid. She said her parents would have preferred her to find a husband by conventional means but "they love and respect" her for her decision. 18th January 2002 |
