| Coffins stolen from funeral parlour Detectives are investigating the theft of two coffins from a village funeral parlour. Durham Police said the two oak veneered coffins, both almost six feet long, were stolen from a storage shed at Cathedral Funeral Service, in Framwellgate Moor, on the outskirts of Durham City. Both had a distinctive nine-inch engraved cross at their heads and police are appealing for witnesses to what they have called a puzzling theft. A police spokesman said: "The thieves made off with two coffins both of which were, thankfully, empty other than some white plastic sheeting. "We are puzzled, to say the least, as to why anyone would want to steal two coffins." 22nd January 2002 |
