Policeman copies James Bond baddie to stop fleeing suspect

A policeman copied a move by James Bond baddie Oddjob by using his helmet to catch a fleeing suspect. Gloucester Pc Colin Mattison gave chase on foot as the suspect tried to make his getaway on a bike. He took aim and threw his helmet at the rear wheel, knocking the cyclist to the ground.

The man has been charged with six offences including possession of an offensive weapon.

In the James Bond film Goldfinger, Oddjob throws his razor-sharp bowler hat at his victims. Pc Mattison patrols Gloucester city centre as part of a special police unit tackling street offences. The 28-year-old officer told the Gloucestershire Citizen: "I do love James Bond films, but what I did was instinctive. I was determined he wouldn't get away." He says the unusual technique is not something taught at police training school.
