| German firm offers baby bonus to female employees Women employees at a German factory are being offered bonuses for having babies. Women at the steel pipe factory in Schwerin will be paid more than £1,200 for giving birth. A spokesman says the bonus is aimed at helping to reverse the region's low birth rate. The factory has 200 employees, but male workers will not be eligible for the bonus. Company spokesman Udo Otter says East Germany has the lowest birth rate in the world. 24th January 2002 |
