| Bird killed by centre court forehand A bird has died on the Australian Open's centre court after a ball hit it during a doubles rally. It was struck by a forehand ground stroke as it chased a moth around the Rod Laver Arena. Frenchman Julien Boutter threw his racket down, fell to his knees and offered a prayer for the animal. An official wrapped the dead bird in a towel and took it away, the Australian Foxsports website reports. Boutter and his partner Arnaud Clement went on to win their match against Michael Llodra and Fabrice Santoro to book a place in the final. 24th January 2002 |
