Robber targets 'indisposed' man on toilet

A Memphis robber is facing jail after pulling his victim off a public toilet and ripping his trousers in half before running off with his wallet.

Prosecutors say victims are at their most vulnerable when they're on a toilet with their trousers round their ankles.

John Brady said he was pulled off the seat and through a gap in the door before being robbed. Oscar Reynolds, 29, has been found guilty of robbery. He faces six to 10 years in prison when Criminal Court Judge Joseph Dailey passes sentence in February, Go Memphis.com reports.

State prosecutor Steve Jones told the jury: "One of the times we are most vulnerable as victims of crimes is in a toilet stall with our pants down. That is when the defendant chose to make John Brady a victim."

The incident occurred on February 25, 2000 in a toilet in an East Memphis office building. Mr Brady, 55, from New Jersey, was in Memphis on business. He told the court: "I was sitting in a stall and someone came underneath the door and told me he wanted my wallet.

He stuck his head in and said, 'Give me your wallet' and I told him, 'No'." He said the man then slid out, banged on the door then reappeared under the door. Mr Brady added: "He grabbed my ankles and started to pull me out of the stall into the main area of the men's room. I was making a lot of noise. I was yelling for help. I was both scared and angry.

My left pant leg came off and I think he realised by its weight that what came with that was my wallet."

Mr Brady said as Reynolds ran off, he shouted from the toilet door that he'd been robbed. Security guards in the office car park stopped Reynolds and held him while police arrived.
