| Verdict expected in 'Satanic killers' case The trial of a German couple who brutally stabbed a friend to death because they claim the Devil told them to is expected to end. Channel 4 News obtained photographs of Manuela Ruda that show what extraordinary lengths the once pretty young woman went to in her pursuit of satanism. She even had animal teeth implanted in her gums to give her the fangs of a vampire. The 23-year-old posed for one photograph standing in front of a crucifix in the flat where the killing was carried out. With husband Daniel, she admits killing Frank Haagen by stabbing him 66 times but claims, in her words to the court: "It was not murder. We are not murderers. It was the execution of an order. Satan ordered us to. "It simply had to be. We wanted to make sure that the victim suffered well." The Rudas told the court in Bochum, near Dusseldorf, they became Satanists in Britain. Manuela described drinking blood from volunteers she met over the internet. The couple told police they visited Britain twice, spending five months in Scotland in 1996 and visiting London in February 1997. Prosecutor Dieter Justinsky has rejected calls from the victim's parents for a life sentence, arguing that the pair show diminished responsibility. The couple are "not the monsters" portrayed in media reports, but "deeply disturbed characters," he told the jury. ========================================== *LATEST* Satanic murder couple jailed for murder Two self-styled Satanists have each been jailed for more than a decade after committing a murder which they claimed the Devil ordered them to carry out. At the end of their trial in Bochum, Germany, Daniel was sentenced to 15 years in prison and his wife to 13 years. Judge Arnjo Kerstingtombroke also ordered that the couple start their sentences in a secure psychiatric facility and receive therapy because of the risk they might repeat their crime. The couple admitted killing Frank Haagen, but claimed they were driven to it and it was not murder. They killed him during a ritual, on a Satanic altar made of skulls and bones in their flat. The 33-year-old was hacked to death with a machete before his head was crushed with a sledgehammer.
