12 years for stabbing
A man has been jailed for twelve-and-a-half years for stabbing a partially blind pensioner from Peterhead. Christopher Robertson, 23, admitted attempting to murder the woman while robbing her of £50 in the shop where she worked. The High court in Aberdeen heard Robertson was high on horse tranquilisers and heroin at the time. Maimie Strachan could now lose her other eye as a result of the stabbing. When told what he had done Robertson said he should be "hung drawn and quartered".

Peace move in 'bus wars'
Moves are being made to end Edinburgh's "bus wars". First Edinburgh has announced it is withdrawing from two of the four routes where rivals Lothian Buses also operate. Lothian Buses said the move meant it could afford to reintroduce previously reduced services. Competition between the two companies on busy routes had forced many cutbacks on out-of-hours and less popular services and prompted an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading.
