| In brief... Thirteen treated after mini-bus crash Thirteen people were taken to hospital on Friday night after their mini-bus collided with a breakdown lorry in Pembrokeshire. The passengers, including several teenagers, were a group from south Wales on their way to a boxing match. The head-on collision occurred on the A477 at Kilgetty and blocked the road for two hours. All thirteen passengers escaped with minor injuries but were taken to hospital in Haverfordwest and Carmarthen for treatment. =================================== Women due in court on murder charge Two women are due to appear in court at Llandudno on Saturday charged with the murder of a 40-year-old woman in Rhyl. Christina Hughes, a mother of two, was found seriously injured in the Bruton Park area of Rhyl. She was found lying in a serious condition on a footpath at Maes Isaf at 0200 GMT on Wednesday morning, and later died at Glan Clwyd Hospital. The two women who have been charged are aged 38 and 30 and are both from the Rhyl area. Police inquiries are continuing. =================================== Police investigate pensioner injury Police at Brecon are investigating after a 74- year-old man was found lying seriously injured on a country road. The pensioner was discovered by the crew of a police patrol car one mile from the village of Talgarth late on Friday night. The man, who is from the Talgarth area, was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital at Abergavenny where he is in intensive care. Police are trying to establish how he came by his injuries. =================================== Grandmother admits drugs offences A south Wales grandmother has escaped being sent to prison after admitting having amphetamine and ecstacy tablets at her home. The drugs were discovered behind a radiator at the Barry home of 43-year-old Maureen Glanville. At Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones QC gave Ms Glanville a conditional discharge at Cardiff Crown Court, but urged her to seek help. "You will kill yourself if you don't stop taking drugs - I pass this sentence in the hope you will get assistance," he said. =================================== Kidney op death trial set The trial of two surgeons accused of unlawfully killing war veteran Graham Reeves will be held early in the summer. The case of consultant urologist John Roberts, 59, and Dr Mahesh Goel, 39, will go before a judge and jury at Cardiff Crown Court. Lawyers at a preliminary hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday said they expected the trial to last three or four weeks. The 70-year-old died after his only healthy kidney was removed in an operation at Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital. 19th January 2002 |
