Woman raped in her own home
Detectives in East Lancashire are investigating the rape of a woman by an intruder in her own home. It happened on Saturday night in Great Harwood. Her attacker is said to be white, in his 30s, between 5ft 4in and 5ft 10in tall with a skinhead hair cut. He was wearing a black jacket and dark jeans. Police especially want to hear from people who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Blackburn Road area at the time of the attack.

Woman conned by 'dead dog' trick
Police are hunting a conman who tricked his way into an elderly woman's home by claiming a dead dog was contaminating her water supply. The man called at the house in Wesley Road in Swindon saying that a dog had died in the drain and it was affecting the water. He then stole £300. It is thought the same man then tried to enter a house in Oxford Road by saying he worked for the waterboard. He is described as 5ft 8" tall with dark hair and a strong Irish accent.

We’re British... new Sikh temple opens
Racial integration or segregation?
A new Sikh temple, which cost about £1m to build, was officially opened in Swindon on Sunday. The new building in Gorsehill is the culmination of many years fund-raising and planning by the town's Sikh community. Construction work began on the new building last March. Facilities include an upstairs prayer hall, linked to a ceremonial dining room by glass stairs. People living in the nearby area had originally formed an action group against the development.

Woman assaulted in seaside town
Police are appealing for witnesses after what they have described as a "serious assault" in Burnham-on-Sea. The victim was a 21-year-old woman who was attacked at 0300 GMT on Saturday on Berrow Road near the lighthouse. Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly any taxi drivers who might have seen anything suspicious. The assailant is described as aged about 20 and of Asian appearance.
