Man and woman stabbed in street
Police say that a 20-year-old student and her uncle, who were stabbed in broad daylight, were involved in a dispute with another man. The relatives suffered serious stab wounds following the assault in Paradise Square, Oxford, at 1510 GMT on Tuesday. They were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital - their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at Abingdon police station.

Two charged after fairground death
Two men have been charged after an investigation into a fairground accident in which two people died. Narelle Cozens, 28, and Michael Lawrence, 24, were killed after a chair split from a ride and crashed into a kiosk at Shepherd's Bush, west London on 27 May 2000. Scotland Yard said Barry Ramsey, 52, of Swan Lane, Wickford, Essex, had been charged with two counts of manslaughter. Darren Jones, 33, of Prae Rd, Chertsey, Surrey has been charged with an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 in relation to the use of the Supertrooper ride on 27 May 2000 at Shepherd's Bush.

Magistrates decide dog's fate
A Staffordshire bull terrier, which attacked another dog in Brighton and Hove, will learn whether it is to be put down on Wednesday. The terrier, named Summer, injured the Pyrenean mountain dog so badly that it had to be put down in September last year The terrier's owner, Christopher Aaron Holmes from Brighton, was prosecuted by the council over the incident. Summer has been kept in custody by police since December.

Council tax summons for a penny
A woman from Kent has been sent a summons for council tax arrears - after failing to pay 1p. Zita Wiltshire, from Broadstairs, thought she was up-to-date with her payments. But she was sent a computer generated letter demanding payment of the penny, plus £10 costs. Thanet District Council have apologised and council leader Richard Nicholson said they are looking at their systems.
