| In brief.. Husband charged over woman stabbing Dyfed Powys Police have charged a 36-year-old man with the attempted murder of his wife following a stabbing in Pembrokeshire. The 38-year-old woman was attacked inside and outside the Spar store in Monkton. Pembroke shortly before 2200 GMT on Tuesday night. She is being treated at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest. Her injuries are not life-threatening. The local man will appear before magistrates in Haverfordwest on Thursday. A second man has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. =================================== Parents step up 'DVT' campaign The family of a woman from South Wales who died from a blood clot in her leg after a long-haul flight are stepping up their campaign for a public inquiry into so-called "economy class syndrome". Ruth and John Christofferson are to hold a candlelit vigil outside Parliament on Thursday. Their daughter Emma died in October 2000 after getting off a flight from Australia. The Christoffersons will join families of other victims to present a letter to the Prime Minister, highlighting their campaign. =================================== Hoax '999' caller is jailed A man who made a hoax 999 call which led to a policeman being seriously injured when he crashed his patrol car has been jailed for four months. Neil Wright, 21, of Brecon Way, Cwmbran, south Wales, had admitted making the false emergency call on 10 October 2001. Abergavenny Magistrates Court heard that Pc Mick Sewell was treated in intensive care after crashing while responding to the call. The court heard that Wright admitted making a similar 999 call on August 18 last year. 24th January 2002 |
