| Hotelier jailed for card frauds A Llandudno hotel manager who used credit card details of guests to spend £8,500 has been jailed for 12 months. Caernarfon Crown Court heard that assistant manager Barry Jones, 26, of Caroline Road, Llandudno, went on a spending spree at the expense of hotel guests. Jones bought electrical goods, a golf bag, chocolates and paid for his own hotel accommodation costs with the credit card details, the court was told. In addition, he had paid off outstanding court fines at Telford Magistrates' Court. Jones obtained goods and services worth £8,500 by deception and attempted further frauds totalling £3,200. The defendant pleaded guilty to charges of deception, receiving a stolen credit card and driving licence. Jones also asked for a further 31 offences to be considered. In mitigation, the court was told that Jones had committed many of the offences in an attempt to keep his relationship going with his young daughter. He had gone on to use guests' details to buy flowers, toys and book himself into Telford hotels. The jury heard that Jones was a hard-working man "ruined by drink and debt". 26th January 2002 |
