| In brief... Murder hunt after fatal stabbing A man has been arrested after another man was stabbed to death in a pub. The victim, 27, was attacked at the Old Shank pub in London Road, Grays, Essex, at about 1900 GMT on Friday. He later died from his injuries at the Basildon Hospital. Murder squad detectives have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. =================================================== Wombles block motorway The M1 in Bedfordshire was thrown into chaos on Thursday when when a lorry lost a load of Womble soft toys. The bizarre accident happened at 0841 GMT on the middle lane of the M1 northbound between junctions 12 and 13 near Luton. A police spokeswoman said: "A number of cars had to swerve to avoid the Wombles on the road - they've all been cleared up now." =================================================== Mugging victim An 80-year-old woman from Nottingham is recovering in hospital after an alleged street robbery in which her shopping bag was stolen. Peggy Savage, from Dunkirk, is doing well in the Queen's Medical Centre, where she is being treated for a blood clot on the brain. Three men are being questioned by police about the incident. =================================================== Probe into taxi driver's murder A murder investigation has started after a taxi driver who was attacked 11 days ago died in hospital on Wednesday night. Dedah Kundar, 59, from Coventry, was found slumped by his private hire vehicle in the early hours of 13 January. He was taken to Walsgrave Hospital in the city with serious head injuries. A 25-year-old man who has been charged with wounding with intent will appear before Coventry magistrates on Friday. 26th January 2002 |
