| Sculptor told to cover up nude hospital statues Health chiefs are ordering a sculptor to cover up two nude statues created for a new hospital in West Yorkshire. Roger Burnett has been told he'll lose his £80,000 commission unless he adds clothes to the bronze women. Calderdale and Kirklees Health Trust says the life-size statues are unsuitable for a hospital environment. Mr Burnett, 58, has spent months modelling the figures and is half-way through the project. Health bosses were offered a sneak preview and didn't like what they saw, The Mirror reports. They've told the artist his work will be accepted if he adds "slips" to the models. Mr Burnett said: "I don't want to be left unpaid, but I believe this is my best work ever." He says he won't be backing down. 1st February 2002 |
