| Man admits kidnapping three women A Leicester man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and robbing three women, including a doctor at the city's hospital. David Andrew Smith, 23, appeared before Judge Richard Pollard at Leicester Crown Court. He admitted charges relating to the kidnap and false imprisonment of three women between July and September 2001. In the first attack, Smith abducted his victim from a supermarket car park, before forcing her to withdraw money from a cashpoint. The doctor was kidnapped eight days later on 14 August 2001 when Smith got into her car and threatened her with a knife. She was forced to drive for several minutes before being bundled into the boot of the car. He withdrew money from a cashpoint but the woman managed to escape when he left the car unattended. Smith from Waltham Avenue, Braunstone, will be sentenced at a later date. 1st February 2002 |
