| Father of pop star jailed for sex with under-age fans THE father of Paul Cattermole, the S Club 7 pop star, was jailed for nearly three years yesterday for sex acts with two 14-year-old girl fans of the group. Gerald Cattermole, 50, from St Albans, Hertfordshire, admitted twice having sex with one girl and twice indecently assaulting the other. Judge Colin Coulston said: “These were girls who were vulnerable. The age difference between you and them was very significant. Men of 50 need to recognise that girls of 14, even if they are willing, are off limits.” Despite police warnings not to get involved with the fans who often visited his flat in the hope of obtaining his son’s autograph, Cattermole befriended the two girls, who both had learning difficulties. The unemployed former delivery driver repeatedly invited them into his flat and gave them chocolates, crisps and cigarettes. On one occasion Cattermole gave the girls cider, danced naked with them and persuaded them to act out scenes from a pornographic video. He was jailed for two years and nine months and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register on his release. St Albans Crown Court was told that the divorcé hated the attention that his son’s fame had brought. He has been estranged from Paul, 24, for more than eight years. Judge Coulston said that Cattermole had not tried to use his son’s fame as an inducement for sex or to get the girls to visit him. Maryam Syed, for Cattermole, said that it had become common knowledge that his son was a member of S Club 7 and many children would knock on his door asking for Paul’s autograph. Cattermole deeply regretted the sex games as the “worst mistake of his life”. The two girls visited him about five times. On October 17 last year one asked him to put on a pornographic video. He then indecently assaulted her while they watched it. The pair returned the following day when they again watched the video and Cattermole had intercourse with one girl. The next evening the video was played once more. The girls took a bath together and Cattermole gave them cider and the trio acted out scenes from the film, Sean Minihan, for the prosecution, said. Cattermole indecently assaulted the same girl again before having sex for a second time with the other. Both spent the night at his flat.
