| Three hurt in clashes Three people have been treated in hospital after clashes between youths at Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on Friday night. At one stage more 100 people were involved and missiles were thrown. Three people have been arrested following the incident in Prince's Street. Warwickshire Police say white and Asian youths were involved. Investigations were continuing on Saturday into the cause of the disturbance. A police spokesman said the incident appeared to be spontaneous. He said officers were alerted shortly after 2100 GMT to reports of fighting. The spokesman said: "Officers successfully broke up the fights and arrested a local... youth on suspicion of assault. "A group of over 100 youths then congregated around the scene of the original disturbance. "Missiles were thrown, damaging two windows of a house in Prince's Avenue and also a police car." The crowd had dispersed by 1130 GMT. Two men, aged 19 and 27, were arrested at a house in the area and are being held on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. Three Asian youths were treated for minor injuries at Nuneaton's George Eliot Hospital and were released on Saturday morning. Police are appealing for witnesses and are urging people to remain calm. 3rd February 2002 |
