| In brief... Police seize £1.8m drug haul Police have seized drugs with an estimated street value of £1.8m in Aberdeen. The class A drugs were recovered in the south side of the city, which involved an operation involving the Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency and Grampian Police. Police said a man had been arrested in connection with the seizure. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in Aberdeen. =========================================== Woman dies in flat blaze A 70-year-old woman has died in a house fire which left her 87-year-old mother critically ill. Jane Boag lived in the flat in Bruce Road, Glenrothes, where the fire broke out at about 1130 GMT on Saturday morning. Her mother - who was paying a visit to her daughter - was resuscitated and taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where her condition was described as critical but stable. Investigations into the cause of the blaze are now being carried out. However, a spokesperson for Fife Constabulary said it was not being treated as suspicious. =========================================== Missing man hunt stepped up Police have renewed their appeal for information about a 72-year-old man who disappeared in Edinburgh two years ago. Peter Rogers was last seen on 1 February 2000 in the Station Bar, Abbeyhill, near his home. Despite various reported sightings of him, no trace has been found of Mr Rogers. A police spokesman said Mr Rogers' family were resigned to the fact that he was probably dead. =========================================== GP lands £90,000 damages An Edinburgh GP who had to take early retirement after he fell down a hole in the pavement has won £90,000 damages from Scottish Power. Dr John Roberts had been talking to a friend one night in June 1998 when he stepped backwards into a three-feet deep hole excavated by the company. Dr Roberts's lawyer said a settlement was agreed before the compensation case started at the Court of Session. 3rd February 2002 |
