| Man arrested after siege reports Armed police have arrested a man and seized two guns following reports of a siege at a remote cottage in north Wales in the early hours of Saturday. Officers with dogs trekked through flooded lanes, during the violent storms, after a woman reported she was being held against her will. After several hours the 30-year-old woman ran barefoot to the safety of armed police and was taken to Llandudno hospital for a check up. A 35-year-old businessman later surrendered to police and was taken to Llandudno police station. Police said it was impossible to access the incident at Nant Bwlch yr Haearn, in the Gwydir Forest above the Conwy Valley, by car. A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed that two guns had been found in the cottage. Chief Superintendent Peter Bolton said: "This was a risky incident. "Police officers carrying specialist equipment had to yomp to the scene and carried out a safe and skilled operation." The woman was expected to be interviewed by police later on Saturday. 3rd February 2002 |
