| Houston is fattest city in US for second year Houston has been awarded the title of fattest city in the US. It is the second consecutive year it has taken the prize. The Men's Fitness magazine survey put Chicago in second place. The magazine considers air and water quality, television-viewing habits, obesity rates, availability of parks and open space, climate and nutrition when assigning ranks. Houston plans to launch a get-fit effort inspired by Philadelphia, which implemented a citywide fitness campaign after the magazine named it the flab capital in 1999. Health clubs offered discounts, businesses sponsored lunch-hour workouts and restaurants presented leaner dishes. Philadelphia is fourth on the list this year. The magazine ranked colourado Springs the nation's fittest city, followed by Denver, San Diego, Seattle and San Francisco. 6th January 2002 |
