Three pregnant women in road crash

Three pregnant women travelling in different cars were taken to hospital on Wednesday after a road accident, it has emerged.

The women were in separate vehicles involved in a six-car crash on the northbound carriageway of the Kessock Bridge, Inverness. The incident happened at 1730GMT during rush hour traffic on the busy bridge. The carriageway was reduced to one lane for almost two hours after the crash.

'Very unusual'
All three expectant mothers were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness as a precaution, police said. None of the other people involved in the incident required medical treatment. A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said: "It was very unusual to have three pregnant women in three of the cars. "I guess the chances of that happening are pretty slim." No further details were available, the spokesman added.
