| Terror strikes hit Sex in the City image New York's Sex in the City image has slipped as a survey revealed promiscuity has plummeted since September 11. Single men and women in the city are seeing fewer people and having casual sex less often. Meanwhile the numbers looking for a serious partner have jumped. The survey, for New York magazine, found 46% of single New Yorkers are now more interested in a serious relationship than they were before the terrorist strikes. And 36% said they were more interested in marriage, while 32% said their biological clocks had started ticking in the wake of the collapse of the World Trade Centre. It found 35% of people said they were having less casual sex, with just 10% having more, despite a prediction by some psychologists that the attacks would drive people into each others' arms. Sex on the first date was also down, from 7% of people four years ago saying they "almost always" slept together on the first night and 8% saying they did so "very often", to 2% now saying always and 4% replying "very often". And 58% of people said they were spending more time at home than before the strikes, while half said less of their time was spent looking for a partner. Karen Jacobson, 32, who took part in the poll, said: "I want to find someone and I want sex to mean more than sex. "After the 11th people realised that life was too short." 3rd February 2002 |
